Alamo City Comic-Con 2013

Going to famous comic conventions like: San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), New York Comic-Con (NYCC), Dallas Comic Comic-Con (DCC), or Dragon Con are out of my reach right now.  Instead, I attended my first comic convention in my local city. Alamo City Comic-Con is a three day convention held yearly in San Antonio, TX during the month of October.

Even though I don’t consider myself to be a comic book nerd; I still enjoy Marvel and DC characters. I grew up watching TV shows like: Super Friends, Justice League Unlimited, and Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, and Superman: The Animated Series, X-Men: The Animated Series, and Teen Titans. I have seen numerous Marvel and DC movies. Plus, I own two Super Nintendo Marvel games, Captain America and The Avengers, and X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse.

The rest of my facts about Marvel and DC characters come from online sources, or from knowledgeable Marvel/DC fans. Knowing all of this, I did not feel imitated to attend a comic con, even do I’m more into anime/manga. My sister and I went on Sunday, which was the only day we had a chance to go. We waited in for line for several hours, made it to the registration booth, paid for our tickets, got our bags checked for safety purposes, and went inside the convention. It was super crowed, but that didn’t faze me because I had experience this before. We walked around to check out the dealers and artist alley. Went to a Walking Dead panel, where past members talked about their experiences being on the show.

Which brings me to the topic of celebrities. The major reason why I wanted to attend Alamo City Comic Con was because they had an amazing list of guests. Who wouldn’t want to meet a famous celebrity? Indeed, I was excitedly fangirling when I read that Mortal Kombat, actor, Robin Shou was going to be a celebrity guest there, but had to cancel do to work business. *cries* nevertheless, there was celebrities like: Richard Horvitz, Steven Cardenas, Walter Jones, David Yost, Jess Harnell, Grey DeLisle, Jim Cummings, X-PAC, Bret “The Hitman" Heart,  Chad Coleman, Steven Yuen,  Herbert Jefferson, Randall Ng, Bill Blair, Danny Trejo, Taimak, Adam West and Burt Ward and etc.

Here’s a clincher, you have to pay to get a photograph or autograph from a celebrity guests. It puzzled me. I never had to pay for a photograph or an autograph from a voice actor when I go anime conventions. Anyways, I made up my mind and paid for a picture with the original, MMPR, black ranger, Walter Jones. There was plenty of celebrities I wanted to take pictures with, but was not about to pay numerous of money, plus I didn’t have much money on me. Overall, it was a great comic convention that I’m willing to attend next year.
